Glass fabric 25 g/m² (Finish FE 800, plain weave), width 110 cm

Glass fabric 25 g/m² (Finish FE 800, plain weave), width 110 cm

USA: width 43.31", weight 0.7 oz/yd²
Very lightweight E-glass fabric with an areal weight of only 25 g/m² for thin surface reinforcement and facing plies.
Particularly suitable for reinforcing wood and veneer surfaces, covering model aircraft wings and producing lightweight facing plies for sandwich structures. The 110 cm width provides convenient handling for small to medium-sized components and allows very lightweight laminates with minimal additional thickness.

International Style 106 (formerly Interglas 02034) with FE 800 finish is a very fine E-glass fabric in plain weave. With an areal weight of only 25 g/m², it is primarily used where an exceptionally lightweight and thin glass-fibre reinforcement is required.

Benefits of the Fabric

With an areal weight of only 25 g/m², International Style 106 is one of the particularly lightweight glass fabrics. The fine plain-weave construction, with identical yarn specifications and thread counts in the warp and weft directions, provides a uniform fabric structure and balanced fibre distribution in both principal directions.

Its main advantage is in applications where surfaces are to be reinforced or covered with a very thin glass-fibre ply without unnecessarily increasing component weight or thickness. Typical examples include wood and veneer surfaces as well as lightweight model aircraft wings.

The plain weave provides good resistance to yarn displacement. This helps the fabric retain its structure during cutting and positioning, which is particularly useful when handling such a fine and lightweight fabric.

Applications

The 25 g/m² glass fabric is primarily used for very lightweight surface reinforcement, covering and facing plies. It is not intended for rapidly building laminate thickness, but rather for applications where a thin glass-fibre reinforcement with minimal additional weight is required.

Typical applications:

  • Reinforcement and covering of wood and veneer surfaces
  • Model aircraft wing coverings
  • Lightweight facing plies for honeycomb and sandwich components
  • Fine surface and facing plies in GFRP laminates
  • Lightweight model-making and composite applications
  • Printed circuit boards and technical laminates

For honeycomb sandwich components, at least two fabric plies should be used due to the very low areal weight.

Suitable Resin Systems

The glass fabric can be processed with suitable epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resin systems. Low-viscosity laminating resins are advantageous for thin surface reinforcement and lightweight laminates, as they facilitate uniform wet-out of the fine fabric.

Epoxy resin systems are commonly used for wood and veneer reinforcement as well as demanding lightweight composite applications, particularly where good adhesion to the substrate and high mechanical properties are required.

Resin consumption 20 g/m²
Laminate thickness 0.027 mm
Laminate weight 45 g/m²

Benefits of the 110 cm Width

The 110 cm width is particularly convenient for small to medium-sized components, wings and wood surfaces. At this width, the very lightweight fabric can be laid out, positioned and cut efficiently.

For components that do not require a greater material width, the 110 cm version can also provide better material utilisation and reduce offcuts compared with a wider fabric.

Technical Notes

Handling Very Lightweight Glass Fabrics
The dry fabric should be cut carefully and positioned with as little distortion as possible. Despite the comparatively stable plain-weave construction, a fabric in this weight class requires careful handling.

Resin Application
With an areal weight of only 25 g/m², controlled and uniform resin application is particularly important. Excess resin increases laminate weight and thickness without increasing the fibre content or the fibre-related reinforcing contribution.

Wood and Veneer Reinforcement
The low areal weight allows a very thin glass-fibre reinforcement with minimal additional mass. The substrate should be clean, dry and compatible with the selected resin system.

Sandwich Components
For honeycomb sandwich components, at least two fabric plies should be used. Any additional facing laminate requirements must be determined according to the core material, component geometry and mechanical loading.

Plain Weave
The high number of yarn interlacings gives the plain weave good resistance to yarn displacement and facilitates distortion-free cutting and handling. For strongly three-dimensional component geometries, twill or satin weave fabrics generally provide better drapability.
