What are release agents?
Release agents are liquid or paste-like products that prevent adhesion between two materials.
Processing recommendations
- Shake container well (for liquid products)
- Observe temperature (mould surface + release agent approx. 20 °C)
- Remove residues in the mould with solvent and, if necessary, fine steel wool
- Polish waxes with cotton cloth or cleaning and polishing cloth only
- Wax new moulds several times (see the recommendation for products)
- Remove old release wax layers
The substrate
Release waxes may only be used on oil- and grease-free substrates. Preliminary tests are required for absorbent substrates such as foam, wood, plaster, etc.
GRP surfaces are well suited for moulding. Painted surfaces, e.g. on master models (car parts, etc.) can generally be moulded with all R&G release agents. However, the paint must be sufficiently resistant to the solvents in the release agent. Preliminary tests (test impressions) are recommended.
Separating the moulds
The component can be removed easily if it has been detached from the mould at the edges beforehand. Plastic demoulding wedges in small and large versions help to separate the mould halves. Very thick, large parts can be removed more easily by tapping the part and mould with a rubber mallet.
