R&G Polyester Resins (UP) Selection Guide
The resins described below are unsaturated polyesters (UP) dissolved in styrene. They are used for the production of fibre-reinforced plastics (GRP) or as casting resin.
Suitable reinforcing fibres are mainly glass mats and glass fabrics.
Laminating resin
Approved for boat building.
Cobalt pre-accelerated, environmentally friendly polyester laminating resin based on orthophthalic acid.
Greatly reduced styrene evaporation for boats, containers, automotive components, ponds and moulds. Slightly thixotropic, therefore no run-off from vertical laminates.
Processing time with 2% MEKP hardener: approx. 20 minutes
Gelcoats
White gelcoat/covercoat resin for epoxy resin laminates.
Thixotropic (non-running), tack-free curing polyester topcoat resin for white topcoats in combination with epoxy resin laminates.
Processing time at 2 % MEKP: approx. 15-20 minutes
Consumption (with a layer thickness of approx. 0.4 mm): approx. 0.5 kg/m²
Transparent UP gelcoat for epoxy resin laminates, colourless in thin layers.
Thixotropic (non-running), tack-free curing polyester topcoat resin for colourless and coloured topcoats, especially in combination with epoxy resin laminates. Used colourless e.g. for decorative components made of carbon fibre, e.g. in motor sports.
Processing time at 2 % MEKP: approx. 15-20 minutes
Consumption (with a layer thickness of approx. 0.4 mm): approx. 0.5 kg/m²
